Safe Installation and Care Instructions

Safe Set Up and Care Guide

  • Choosing a Location for Your Safe
    • It is best to choose a secure location for your safe that will not be visible from outside view through windows or open doors. Try to void placing your safe in traffic areas that will be frequented by other than family members. For businesses, placing your safe in a back office area is recommended.
    • For optimal fire protection, your safe should be placed in the basement or at the lowest level of your home, against an outside wall. Be sure to keep your safe away from areas with highly combustible materials.
    • Vault Pro Safes are made with thicker steel than average safes and are quite heavy by design. If you are installing your safe on an upper floor (an important consideration if you live in flood prone areas) be sure to install your safe near a load-bearing wall for added security.
    • Your safe is made of high quality steel and other Premium materials, then painted with top grade paint. To preserve the finish of your safe you should avoid areas of high humidity. It is recommended you keep your safe in an enclosed climate controlled environment and avoid high temperature fluctuations. A moisture seal, such as a piece of carpet is suggested if you are placing your safe on a concrete floor.

  • Removing Safe from Pallet and Inspection
    1. Lift the access panels on the sides of the floor.
    2. Remove mounting bolts using an appropriate socket (normally 9/16”) and ratchet.
    3. Vault Pro safes are heavier than typical safes, so please use extreme caution when removing the bolts to prevent tipping. At least two people are necessary to remove the safe and protect against tipping over. We recommend at least three people on our 750 and 760 size safes.
    4. Once the shipping mounting bolts are removed close the safe door and lock the safe. Make sure the safe is in the desired location before carefully sliding it off the pallet and in to place. Use caution to avoid scratching or otherwise damaging floor and safe surfaces.
  • Anchoring the Safe to the Floor
    1. Anchoring your safe to the floor provides optimum security and stability of your safe and contents. It is highly recommended that you anchor your safe to the floor using an anchoring kit for either wood or concrete floor installation depending on your placement.
    2. Pre-Drill holes in the bottom of the safe are provided as anchoring points. These are the same holes drilled for anchoring the safe to the shipping pallet. Be sure the pallet has been removed before proceeding.
    3. Place safe in desired location and check for level. If safe will be placed directly on concrete be sure to place a moisture barrier that covers entire area of the safe base. A carpet swatch makes a suitable barrier to help protect the safe from moisture or scratches. If safe door opens or closes automatically you may need to adjust using shims to adjust until level.
    4. After assuring the safe is level you will lift the access panels inside the base of the safe to expose the anchor point holes. If you received an anchor kit with your safe follow the instructions suppled with the kit to drill and place the anchor bolts. Instructions will vary depending on type of installation (concrete or wood). Additional tools will be required as called for in the kit instructions.

  • Exterior Finish Safe Use and Care

The painted surfaces of your safe must be maintained properly, in a climate-controlled environment. For proper gun safe maintenance, don't expose the safe exterior or interior to weather or extreme humidity. A dehumidifier is recommended for locales with high humidity.

Hardware, including dial, digital pad, 5-prong wheel and pull handle if added must be cleaned only with water and a soft cloth. Do not use any chemical cleaners or abrasives on any coated surfaces.

Painted surfaces, including custom art and logos should be kept dry and dust free. They must be cleaned very gently. Do not rub these surfaces.

When in doubt please contact us for specific cleaning instructions. 800-299-6929

  • Care of Interior
    1. The interior of your safe may be safely cleaned using a vacuum and/or cleaning cloth. A cleaning cloth slightly moistened with water only may be used to gently brush away any debris. Be sure the interior is dry before closing the safe. Do not use chemical cleaners on the safe interior or component parts.
    2. The safe interior should be kept in a state of low humidity to protect both the safe and its contents. If your safe is in a location prone to high humidity we recommend getting a dehumidifier. Vault Pro offers several dehumidifiers, which we recommend. For further information please contact us.
